November 19, 2007—One of my new workers turned 21 today. I bought her a cake.

November 27, 2007—I am dealing with new baby fish in my aquarium. I wish for better luck this time. 2 babies from the last batch (school?) of 12 survived the plague. And somebody important has a birthday today.

December 9, 2007—I have 6 baby fish growing in a special section of my tank. So far, so good. I recently bought a few more adult fish since my aquarium seems stable now.
December 17, 2007—Today a cat that had always hidden from me did not hide.
December 27, 2007—Christmas came and went. It went pretty well. I used some of my presents immediately.

January 1, 2008—I went to see Juno with a friend. We both liked it a lot.

January 13, 2008—I have seen The Savages with a friend, and I liked it. I have freed the baby fish to live in the wider community of the aquarium. I have passed on an e-mail forward version of Scrabble.

January 23, 2008—A friend asked about what CD's I had in my collection which were complilations of 80's hits, like Living in Oblivion and New Wave Hits of the 80's. I did have some of those, I reported back to my friend.

February 2, 2008—I had breakfast. I went grocerery shopping. I watched some DVDs from Netflix. I went to a cheap movie theater with a friend.

February 2, 2008—I had a pancake breakfast. I went grocerery shopping. I watched some DVDs from Netflix.  I took a quick trip in to work. I went to a cheap movie theater with a friend. I remembered that it was Groundhog Day.

February 11, 2008—I discovered a new version of The Day the Earth Stood Still is being produced for this spring. That was after I had decided to use a photo of Gort as a fake ID picture.

February 25, 2008—I had a surprise visitor last week. I rode the bus a few days when the weather was bad. Otherwise, I still drive to UC.

March 7, 2008—A snow storm caused UC to close at 2:00 p.m. Half a snow day is better than none!

March 21, 2008—Several of my friends and I myself have had birthdays since March 7. Also, sadly, an uncle of mine died.

April 17, 2008—More birthdays; a birth of a child; announcement of a pregnancy. About 30 black mollies were born 10 days after a single other fish was born in my aquarium; I set up my old 10 gallon aquarium as a nursery for the babies.

May 8, 2008—More birthdays; more and more mollies were born; I bought an 29 gallon aquarium, but the excessive births make that eventually inadequate; I will keep males and females in separate tanks.
I was caught by surprise when a friend announced the decision to seek a divorce.

I was caught by surprise when a friend announced the decision to seek a divorce.

June 11, 2008—A twentysomething birthday for someone I like a lot. Some fish have been given away, but many more are still in residence.

July 8, 2008—A fiftysomething birthday for someone related to me. I have 2 new baby fish despite trying to keep males and females separate. Summer quarter started with the most complicated summer schedule ever! I have to make a new schedule for each week rather than one that lasts all summer. I have been busy with parental health issues.

August 1, 2008—Health issues continue for my parents and also for some friends. Human babies have been born among my friends. My fish babies are growing. I have a new cell phone with speaker phone and camera.

August 22, 2008—Recently a two fish jumped out of the aquarium when I opened the lid to feed the fish in the morning. The fish were okay. I put them back in the tank and they are healthy--and maybe just very hungry!
September 7, 2008—I had some vacation time. I caught up on some reading and video viewing.

September 19, 2008—Due to hurricane force winds, the power was out at our house from Sunday the 14th until Thursday the 18th. One molly fish was lost. About a hundred still remain of the mollies.

October 12, 2008--My father died September 29. Our family has been in a whirlwind of emotion and responsibility since then. We are pleased he is no longer in pain, and we are pleased he had the kind of funeral he wanted.

October 29, 2008--A friend announced she was expecting another child, and, since Halloween is coming, she envisioned me in my famous Pumpkin T-shirt. Alas, I am now too fat to wear that. I still have it, though.
November 15, 2008--A friend announced she gave birth to her 4th child earlier in the week. I have been doing a little playing around on Facebook. The election results mostly pleased me. I have hope that there will now be MATURITY and INTELLIGENCE in the White House.

November 16, 2008--A close friend sent e-mail that she had moved to Florida to start a new life. I wished her all the best.

November 23, 2008--I raked leaves with an old fashioned rake. I had tried to use a blower/vacuum, but it was taking too long (and my arms were getting cramped). I did use the leaf vacuum after I had created a big pile. The vacuum helped to compress the leaves for bagging.

December 5, 2008--I was glad that the last day of the quarter had arrived! I really look forward to time off after exam week. I decided to change a few things on this pared down website. My friends can find me on Facebook these days. And there's always e-mail, or phone calls or actual visits.

December 6, 2008--I washed my heavy winter coat because it had the stink of the city on it. It was much nicer smelling afterward. Sometimes it is the small things that make you happy.

January 8, 2009--I had a good Christmas and New Year's. It was a bit strange without my father, but we are adjusting. I still have over a hundred fish between 3 aquaria (or aquariums).

February 8, 2009--I reached the 5-year anniversary with my car. Car loan to be paid off tomorrow!

March 16, 2009--I have my car title. I have been to a couple of funerals. I bid my friend farewell, the friend who has relocated to Florida. My friend was back in town to wrap up some business.
April 7, 2009--I restored a friend's computer over the weekend. I tried a lot of  things, but in the end I just had to use the restore disks that came with the system. I did rescue the data from the hard drive before reformatting it. My friend's birthday was also over the weekend.
Looking back, it was about a year ago that the first of the horde of baby mollies began appearing in my fish tank. Most of them are still alive today. A year from now, though, about half will have died.
May 19, 2009--I didn't mean to ignore this site for so long. It has been a busy time. Today is the second anniversary of the death of my dear cat Halloween.
June 2, 2009--I had lunch with a friend at Dewey's Pizza. My friend said she was moving to Madison, Wisconsin on July 1. I wish her and her husband well!
July 16, 2009--I have had to make several home improvements. I lost 7 fish in a power outage late last month. The outage lasted 31 hours. We are considering an emergency generator. Summer seems half over, but it isn't half over yet. I am still writing a full Newsletter which goes out by e-mail only twice a month. This was the day for the first issue of July.
July 27, 2009--I recently learned of a divorce among friends via Facebook.

We have had several expensive repairs to the house. I learned I will probably have to have surgery on a goiter.

August 21, 2009--Since July, I have had visits from old friends, and I met my half-brother and his family. All the meetings and visits were good ones.
October 21, 2009--Since August, I have done and seen many things. I have had lunch with a couple of Labbettes. I am thinking of not updating this page too often with any specifics. People who really need to know about what I am up to can contact me by e-mail or through Facebook I have no desire to do Twitter, but I have an account there.
October 29, 2009--Remembering Andy Zingis: A joke he told a lot: “Psychology is that discipline which seeks to determine if infants have more fun in infancy than adults do in adultery.”
December 19, 2009--I got through thyroidectomy on the 11th of December. I am spending my winter break recuperating and relaxing. I was more relieved to find out a friend's lymphoma is likely to respond to treatment.

January 26, 2010--No fish deaths in the past month! Year started with cold and snow then an unusually warm period of weather. Now back to average winter weather.
Waiting for my W-2 for the year 2009.
Remembering Andy Zingis: He would often tell me "You can get married or you can stay single. Either way, you're gonna suffer." Somehow he thought that would encourage me to try the marriage thing.

April 11, 2010--Only a couple of fish deaths in the past few months! Still plenty left. Still 3 tanks. It has been about 2 years since the black mollies were born.

Since Jan. 26, I've had a birthday, and I've helped to celebrate the birthdays of others.

April 1 was the worst April Fool's day ever. I heard from a friend that her mother had died. I heard from another that she has thyroid cancer--curable with thyroid removal.

May 24, 2010--A couple more fish deaths in the past month! Still plenty left. Still 3 tanks. My guess is that after 10 more fish are gone, I will be able to consolidate into 2 tanks (keeping males and females separate). My guess for the time of consolidation is September or October--unless there is a sudden, mass die-off. Last year a summer power outage cost me 7 fish. (See above.)

My one friend is adjusting to life without her mother. The other, mentioned above in April, had thyroid removal and is receiving other treatment. Her throat is sore from the treatments. Still, it looks like she will recover at some point.
June 13, 2010--3 fish deaths in 3 weeks! A SINGLE BABY FISH FOUND! How did that happen? As the baby fish grows, it is looking like a catfish and not a black molly. Hmm. I did have 2 catfish for a while, and one died recently with a bloody tail. Hmm. Well, time will tell if the baby really is an ugly duckling. At UC the school year ended. Workers graduated. The summer is looking interesting in various ways. A friend made a surprise visit back to town, and we had Skyline chili. Speaking of food, on June 6 I made a special trip to get soft serve ice cream. It was worth the trip down memory lane.

July 6, 2010--The baby fish is not an ugly duckling. It is a SPECKLED molly. I am close to consolidating into just 2 tanks.

The summer has been good so far. A friend who avoided Facebook broke down and created an account. I am very sad that the 2 German shepherds that our new neighbor had were apparently stolen from his yard.

September 3, 2010--I have consolidated into just 2 tanks. It's going well.

The stolen German Shepherds from next door have not been seen or heard from.

I'm on the verge of a week off from work.

October 10, 2010--The baby speckled molly has stopped growing at about half the size of most of the other fish.

Vacation was relaxing, but now the autumn quarter has begun, and things are as busy as expected. The greatest comfort at work is the return of a wonderful former worker. That person may only be around again a quarter or two. It will be a sad second parting.

December 13, 2010--Yesterday another black molly died. There are about 50 mollies left between the two tanks.

Recently I celebrated my 30th anniversary as an employee on UC's staff. My anniversary day is the same day that John Lennon was murdered.
January 14, 2011--3 more fish died since December. The new year is going well with the exception of the cold and snow. I am waiting for my 30 year service gift from the University.

March 26, 2011--I did get my anniversary gift of a gold-plated pocket watch a while back. I am enjoying the end of spring break. This week when I clicked on a link to read about an Ohio woman celebrating her 119th birthday, that was when I saw the breaking news that screeen legend Elizabeth Taylor had died at the not-nearly-as-old age of 79.

May 23, 2011--Small. victories: Over the weekend I used a Turtle Wax headlight lens restorer to clean away the cloudiness of my headlight lens. It worked well. Also, this morning, the new work shoes I had purchased last week kept my feet dry in the rainy wetness as I walked from my car to my work place.

The fish are down to almost a normal number in each tank. They have reached their 3rd year anniversary (the black mollies have anyway), and whichever ones continue to live are going beyond expected life span.

August 28, 2011--Wow. A long time since the last entry. That's because I send the real Newsletter via e-mail now, and I do other networking via Facebook. Anyway, recently there was good news about getting new computers at work! I recently discovered a friend and former employee is expecting her 5th child. I've planted a tree in our backyard. The tree is a seedling found already growing. I moved it to a new spot and took care of it. It is nowover 2 feet tall, and it is a tree that is supposed to grow 2 feet each year.

In one tank, the fish are down to only 8. Those are the male fish. In the other tank, the females number 19.

December 28, 2011--Wow. Another long time since the last entry. Anyway, the new computers were installed at work a week or so ago. A welcome improvement. Today I reconnected with an old friend who had been lost in Florida..

The tree I had planted in the back yard is bare for the winter.

In the male tank, the fish are down to only 2 black mollies. I have added some tiger barbs and tetras to the tank to keep the mollies company. When the mollies die off, I will put the others into the "female" tank. In that female tank, the black mollies are down to 9, and there are a few other fish in there as well. I look forward to the day of only one fish tank to take care of.

February 24, 2013--I have one fish tank with no black mollies.

The tree I had planted in the back yard is bare for the winter, but it is about 4 feet high. I expect it to grow another 2 feet this year. It should be taller than I am by the end of this growing season.

Somebody important has a birthday today. Other important birthdays are tomorrow and the 26th. :-)

I guess I am about 2 years from retirement, but it depends on circumstances at that time. I do have expenses.
